Who we are

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity is part of Manchester Foundation Trust Charity, registered charity number 1049274.

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity raises funds to benefit the 270,000 children in our care each year, focusing on supporting excellence in treatment, research and care. You can find further information about the work of the charity here.

Manchester Foundation Trust Charity also governs the charitable arms of Manchester Royal Infirmary, Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital, Manchester University Dental Hospital, Withington Community Hospital, Trafford General Hospital and Altrincham Hospital.

As the parent organisation for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity, Manchester Foundation Trust Charity is the data controller for the information Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity collects, records, uses and stores about its supporters and donors.

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. This Privacy Policy sets out how we use and protect any information that you give to us when you use our website, or otherwise provide us with data such as filling in a donation form or buying merchandise or event tickets.

What data do we collect?

Personal information is information that can be used to identify you. We collect personal information when you attend or take part in one of our events, make a charitable donation, register yourself as a volunteer or fundraiser, request a fundraising pack, subscribe to receive marketing from us, or otherwise give us personal information.

We may collect the following information:

  • Name
  • Contact information including email address, telephone number and postal address
  • Demographic information such as postcode, age, preferences and interests
  • Amount donated online or in person. We will collect credit or debit card information via a donation form or a secure online portal in order to process your donation or payment, but your payment details will not be stored following completion of your transaction and paper records will be securely disposed of.
  • Whether or not you are a UK tax payer (should you sign a Gift Aid declaration form)
  • In some circumstances, we may also receive information about you from third parties. This data will help us to fundraise more efficiently by understanding how to provide the best experience for our supporters, and how to most appropriately contact you. This information may include updated contact details, or information about previous charity support and interests that may be used to tailor communications. We will only use information that is publically available.

If you only read or download information whilst using this website, we will capture information about your visit. This information will not identify you and will relate to:

  • The address of the website you linked to us from (if applicable)
  • The date of your visit
  • The type of browser you use
  • The internet domain and the web address that you access the website from

What we do with the information we gather

We may use your information for:

  • Internal record keeping, accounting and administration purposes.
  • Processing online donations, sales and event sign-ups.
  • Updating subscription preferences for our charity newsletter and contacting you for marketing purposes. We may contact you by mail or by phone, SMS or email if you have consented to receive electronic communications from us.
  • You can change your marketing preferences at any time by contacting us. We will not use your information for marketing purposes if you have indicated that you do not wish to be contacted in this manner, however, we will retain your details on a suppression list to help ensure that we do not contact you in the future.  
  • We may use the information to make improvements to our services and events, improve our communications with our supporters, and make each visit to the website more rewarding. We do this by internally analysing and processing personal data and we believe that it is within the legitimate interests of our organisation to do so, to ensure that we meet our charitable aims.
  • We may use information that we receive from you, or from third parties, to tailor direct marketing, including donation solicitation amounts.

Internet security and links

We use a secure server for the areas of our website that collect personal information. Although we cannot completely guarantee that any data transmitted over the internet is 100% secure, we do enforce strict procedures and security features to protect your information and prevent any unauthorised access.

Our website may contain links to other websites of interest. However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide whilst visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement. You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.

How we use cookies

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer's hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic. Cookies improve the functionality of sites by allowing web applications to respond to you as an individual. We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about web page traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We only use this information for statistical analysis purposes.

 We will not sell your information to third parties, although we will share your details with certain third parties if we are required to do so by law. If we use your contact details to send you marketing information including fundraising appeals, we may securely share aspects of your personal data with trusted third parties (who will be acting only as per our instruction and in accordance with applicable laws) in order to complete the distribution of these marketing communications and appeals. If you have completed a Gift Aid declaration, we will share your personal details with HMRC.

We will retain your information for no longer than we deem necessary, in accordance with NHS policy, and tax and accounting laws. If you ask us to delete any information that we hold on you, please be aware that we may have to maintain some of this data despite your request, to fulfil legal and regulatory requirements.
