New Helipad Will Soon Be Landing

MFT Helipad
Monday 03rd June 2019

Thanks to our amazing supporters, in 2016 we raised £3.9million to build a helipad on top of the Grafton Street car park on our central hospitals site.

The first helipad of its kind in central Manchester, it will have a high-level link bridge straight across to our Emergency Departments in Manchester Royal Infirmary and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. When it’s fully operational in early 2020, it will enable critically ill or injured children, adults and babies to be airlifted straight to our hospitals.

This will save lives locally and regionally and increase the chances of a full or improved level of recovery in a great many seriously ill or injured patients. Following the completion of the tender and planning phases, construction is now due to commence this summer and will take approximately six months. The construction phase has been carefully planned to minimise disruption to staff, patients, visitors and other site users.

The project will require some road/access closures – please see details on the map on the right for safe access routes for cars and pedestrians. For patients, visitors and fundraisers coming to the hospitals or our charity office, please allow a bit more time to park and get to your destination.

Extra shuttle bus services from Grafton Street car park to all our hospitals will be available. The Trust’s Car Park staff and Volunteer team will also be on hand to help with directions and information.

“The helipad is an amazing project which will help to save so many lives. It will be ‘business as usual’ as far as possible during the construction, and we appreciate your patience while the work is underway.” - Kathy Cowell OBE DL, Trust Chairman
