Johnny Vegas Rugby League Charity Challenge

06 August 2018

Comedian, actor and Rugby League fan, Johnny Vegas, is the latest star to join the line-up for the celebrity half-time challenge at this year’s Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final at Wembley.

Vegas will be coached and supported by four-times Challenge Cup winner, Paul Sculthorpe and they’ll be fundraising for Ward 84 (Oncology & Haematology) at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital who helped save the life of Paul’s daughter, Evie.

He’ll compete against television presenter, comedian and Physical Disability Rugby League player Adam Hills and sporting soprano Laura Wright on the hallowed Wembley turf.

Each of the celebrities will be required to complete six accurate passes of a rugby ball, make a complete set of six tackles, including sprinting back 10 metres each time, before kicking a ball between the posts. The challenge will be similar to the one completed by Blue Peter presenter Lindsey Russell and England Women’s international Faye Gaskin at the 2017 final where Lindsey managed to complete the challenge first after Faye hit the crossbar with her kick.

Whilst the aim of the game for each of the celebrities is to complete the challenge it’s expected to be fiercely competitive as each will be hoping to complete the challenge first and claim the bragging rights.

Each of the celebrities will be sponsored to complete the challenge in order to raise money for their chosen charity. The charities will also receive a significant cash back from all ticket sales that they generate for the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final.

Johnny Vegas said, “I can’t wait to take on the half-time challenge at Wembley in August this year and I’m delighted to be supported by my friend and St Helens legend Paul Sculthorpe, fundraising for a cause close to him and his family.

“I’ve been a Rugby League fan all my life so it’ll be a huge honour and a great experience to be on the pitch at the final. I can’t wait to be part of the action.”
