Children's TV star Olivia launches Teddy Toddle
Milkshake! presenter Olivia Birchenough met patients at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital this week to help officially launch Teddy Toddle.
Nurseries, crèches and playgroups across the North West are being encouraged to sign up and organise their own under 6s sponsored walk to raise money for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.
The events will take place during the week commencing 20th May and those who register before Friday, 10th May will be in with a chance of winning a visit from Olivia and the charity’s very own Humphrey Bear on the day of their walk.
To launch the special event, Olivia visited Ward 78 and surprised young patients with a story reading. Children gathered in the ward’s playroom to hear “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” before Humphrey made an appearance and posed with Olivia for photographs.
Olivia then visited some of the children who hadn’t been able to make it to the playroom, to meet them at their bedside.
Olivia said: “It was so lovely to meet all the children and spend some time chatting to them.
“They’re obviously going through a bad time, being in hospital, but they were full of smiles.
“It’s such a privilege to support Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity and I’m excited to join in a Teddy Toddle in May.”
Teddy Toddles are taking place across the North West to help the thousands of poorly children treated at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. All funds raised through the Teddy Toddles will go towards funding specialist Play Therapy for young patients.
Teddy Toddle events can be held at nurseries, local parks, village halls or playing fields – all organisers have to do is pick a date that best suits between Monday, 20th May and Friday, 24th May.
All groups who register will receive a free fundraising pack.
Angela Rowe, Community Fundraising Manager at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “This is a particularly special year for us as it’s the hospital’s 10th birthday.
“We really want as many young supporters as possible to join in the celebrations and make this year’s Teddy Toddle the best yet.”
