Magic Carpet - £15,500

This interactive, portable PC and projector will be used in the Harrington Building, which is home to our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service inpatient unit, to enable our patients and their families to access fun interactive facilities that can aid their treatment.

Children with significant physical or cognitive impairments, non-verbal children, or those with acquired brain injuries, amongst others, are often difficult for clinicians to assess because of their condition. Psychological interventions often struggle to engage children without language or purposeful movement, but eye gaze is a skill that even children with complex conditions can retain.

Using the Magic Carpet’s interface camera and eye point device, these children will be able to join in fun games and communicate with other patients and clinicians, and also be able to undergo neuropsychological assessment that would normally be problematic, if not impossible, to achieve because of their condition.
