Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering for Royal Manchester Children's Hospital is a fun and rewarding way to help us make a difference. Your time and talent is valuable in helping to support our fundraising work.

We're on the lookout for helpful and reliable volunteers to assist with a wide range of volunteer opportunities. Volunteers must be over 18-years-old, under 18s can attend most of our opportunities as long as they are accompanied by their parent/guardian.

Whether it is store collections, helping out at our events, or assisting in our charity office, there are many ways that you can get involved. Our current volunteer opportunities are listed below...


Manchester City Football Club Collection

Collections – where we receive donations in a public area  - are a vital part of our fundraising.  We are looking for volunteers to help out with our collection before the Manchester City football match on Saturday 20th October. The pre-match atmosphere at MCFC is always great and family friendly – why not bring a friend along to help out as well? 

Please note that this event takes place outside and volunteers are responsible to making their own way to and from the Etihad Campus which is well served by public transport, including Metrolink.  You will be able to collect your collection kit from the team on the day.

Where:  Etihad Stadium, prior to the Manchester City FC vs Burnley FC match

When:  Saturday 20th October 2018

Skills Required:  A positive outlook and your best smile to encourage donations!

How long:  12.30pm to 3.15pm

Number of volunteers required: 70

Glow in the Park

Glow in the Park is heading to Manchester for the first time! Taking place at Heaton Park, the event it is the ultimate night-time Neon 5Km fun run, and we are delighted to be the official Charity partner for the event.

Where:  Heaton Park

When:  Saturday 27th October 2018

Number of volunteers required:  30

How longRole 1 17.00pm – 23.00pm, Role 2 15.00pm -23.00pm, Role 3 18.00 – 23.00pm

Any particular skills required

Role 1 – Paint station volunteer, to spray participants with paint as they approach your station

Role 2 – Registration Desk, to give out running numbers and packs as well as finishers medals after the race

Role 3 – Race Marshall, to act as a guide to runners ensuring they follow the correct route 

Travel:  Volunteers will be responsible for making their own way to and from Heaton Park.

Additional info: All volunteers who complete a full shift at Glow in the Park will receive free entry into the 2019 Glow in the Park event.

Humphrey’s Lantern Walk
Our 2nd Humphrey’s Lantern Walk takes place this November when hundreds of children and their families walk through the beautiful Heaton Park to raise funds for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
We require volunteers for a number of roles including: 

  • Registration / Goody Bag Collection
  • Walk volunteers – start line, front/back walkers
  • Marshalls
  • Finish Line

We need volunteers for a minimum of 2 hours on the day with the exact times dependent on volunteering role.  The earliest start would 1.30pm and the latest finish time will be 5.30pm

Please note that this event takes place outside and volunteers will be responsible for making their own way to and from Heaton Park.

Where:  Heaton Park, Manchester, M25 2SW

When:  Saturday 17th November 2018

Skills Required:  Enthusiasm, a friendly smile and ability to work outside in varying weather conditions.

How long:  A minimum of 2 hours per volunteer.

Carols in the City

Our annual Carols Concert is a real Christmassy affair, hosted by Cold Feet star John Thomson and with readings from our charity patrons. There will be lots of festive sing-along with performances from the choirs of local schools.

Where:  Manchester Cathedral, Victoria St, Manchester M3 1SX

When:  Thursday 20th December 2018

Number of volunteers required:  20

How long:  Role 1 18.00pm – 21.30pm, Role 2 18.00pm -21.30pm

Any particular skills required

Role 1 – To assist the fundraising team with the sale of paper baubles during the intervals at the beginning and end of the event.

Role 2 – Guide guests to their seats and help with quesries regarding toilets etc. Assist with the sale of hot beverages and snacks to guest at the event during the intervals.

Travel:  Volunteers will be responsible for making their own way to and from Manchester Cathedral
